I chose this cat as my avatar.  She looks just like a cat my neighbor had when I was a little girl.  She represents my “love of cats” and embraces my feeling that “everyone is unique.”

She has heterochromatia, meaning she has one normal eye (yellow one) and one blue eye.  It usually occurs in white cats or almost all white cats.  Japanese Bobtail, Turkish Van and the Turkish Angora are the most common breeds this occurs in.  Sometimes, they are deaf on the “blue-eyed” side.

Heterochromia can occur in dogs, horses and even humans.  They can be completely heterochromatic or “sectoral”, like a blue iris with a brown section.
